Someone wrote about comfort food and so I checked out what it meant. I may be wrong in my research but it ultimately means something that has high levels of sugar or carbohydrates that gives immediate gratification and sense of satisfaction quickly. I suppose it is sort of like walking or driving through your favorite fast food place and getting one of essentials of life (food) that gives immediate gratification but may not be very healthy. Please don't get me wrong. I love my ice cream and apple pies from McDonald's but the fact is they are unhealthy. God was dealing with this very thing in Israel.
Jeremiah 23:16-17
Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you.
They make you worthless;
They speak a vision of their own heart,
Not from the mouth of the Lord.
They continually say to those who despise Me,
‘The Lord has said, “You shall have peace” ’;
And to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say,
‘No evil shall come upon you.’ ”
Everyone loves to hear "comfort" - ing words. Words that imply that their wrong and evil actions are okay. You will be at peace. The persons speaking about it give credence to their discourse by saying that all that is spoken comes from their god given dreams. Jeremiah speaks against these by using the analogy of a shepherd and his flock. Sodom and Gomorrah is mentioned. Reflecting on this there is no difference from today's circumstances. There are ministers of the gospel who are not staying true to the Word of God. The Word is being misrepresented.
No matter what, I must understand and stay correct as I read His Word. Through the power of the Holy Spirit and wisdom of Godly men and women, I stay the course that God intends for all of us. The Word of God must not be twisted to give us "comfort".
Father, help me stay with what You are truly saying.
