People generally look for positive statements about themselves or their circumstances. It makes them attracted to listen more to a person making the positive remarks, even if that person may have an ulterior motive. It could be a salesman trying to make a sale, a politician trying to win votes, or a person trying to get to a position of authority in a community, like a prophet. Hananiah may have been no different.
Jeremiah 28:11
And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years.’ ” And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.
It was a positive thing to say that everything would be restored within 2 years without considering whether that is what the Lord is saying (The Lord had specifically said and was fulfilled that the people of Israel will be in captivity for 70 years). Jeremiah came out rebuking him greatly by saying a heavier yoke will be upon their necks.
Time to cut through the lies and see the reality. Our works that are against God must be removed. God is seeking those with a sincere heart that would submit themselves for His calling without personal agenda or ambition. Yes God, it must be all about You only.
Father, help me to stay correct in the words that I expound from Your Word.
