Speak well

Over the years I have learnt through success and failure what I should and should not say. My problem is that I am a loud thinker. This means nothing is hidden. Everything that I am thinking, I say it. It can get you into trouble. And it has for me. But at least people do not need to second guess me. They always know what I am thinking. But there is another type of talk that is destructive. Psalms 64:8 So He will make them stumble over their own tongue; All who see them shall flee away. Talking behind people's back with great ill intention. Many schemes get developed (intentionally or unintentionally) and may bring down a person or an entire organization. It can bring great disrepute to someone when there is nothing. It could spilt an organization and build irreparable damage. But God has a promise for us. He will make them stumble over their own tongue. Father, keep me from speaking ill of anybody behind their backs. I want to build not destroy.

Apple of my eye

Praying is a wonderful act of communing with Creator God. It is so pleasant and enriching. It is not one way. You speak your mind and God speaks into yours; if you care to listen. Some have heard the audible voice of God. I sense His presence constantly. David was being chased by Saul and this chapter in Psalms is one of his intimate prayers to God. Psalms 17:8 Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, He uses a term that is so beautiful and intimate. When we are very intense in our relationship with someone our eyes lock and you gaze deeply into their eyes. You pour your love into that gaze and the person is greatly cherished and loved. David is seeking for that great intimacy with God. In our busyness and need to get on with the affairs of life, we forget the most precious thing that we could be doing. I adore and look forward to starting my day with you Lord. Make me the apple of Your eye. Father, your face is whom I seek first thing in the morn...

Pray and teach

I shared at devotions yesterday that prayer is an important component in achieving our God given vision. Prayer helps us connect with Him, releases His favor and yields the power of the Holy Spirit into our situation. If we neglect to pray we are only shortchanging ourselves. Samuel made a commitment to pray. 1 Samuel 12:23, Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. I also made a commitment to pray daily as part of my personal goals when I joined a one month programme 10 years ago . It has totally transformed my relationship with God and how I operate through the day. In the same verse Samuel commits himself to teaching the people the good and the right way. My learning here is that it is not good enough to pray, but I have to teach. Father, I will pray and teach.
