We need to reach out to the best help

Learn from history is what we are continually told from years past. But what do we do? We fail to learn from the failures and victories. I suppose we are poor learners in general. Isaiah 20:5-6, Then they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation and Egypt their glory. And the inhabitant of this territory will say in that day, ‘Surely such is our expectation, wherever we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape?’ Here we have Isaiah symbolically showing the people of Israel that they should be ashamed of trusting in the Egyptians and the Cushites. No, trust in the Lord only. Man may fail but God never. It may be difficult for a period of time but God is there always to provide us the peace that passes all understanding. Every issue and every anxiety are with you Lord. Father, my entire ways and approach must be to trust in You only.

Do not judge a book by its cover

Outward and early appearances can be deceiving. You have probably heard the saying, "don't judge a book by its cover" or "still water runs deep ". All alluding the possibility that it may not be what it seems. This verse seems to indicate that King Ahaz of Judah was good. But, the subsequent verses are very revealing. 2 Kings 16:2, Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord his God, as his father David had done. This king worshiped many other things. He followed evil practices that were followed by other nations around him. He should have realized why he was being defeated by his enemies. He did not trust in God. He trusted in created things and man. 2 Kings 16:3-4, But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel; indeed he made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out from before the children o...

Learn from history

Man does not learn from history. We see this time and time again. There are no learnings. I feel sorry for the history majors. No one is listening to them. Or, may be worse, they are mute. In the days of Israel, the prophets were not mute. They spoke boldly against the sin of the kings. 1 Kings 16:31, And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. Ahab has been spoken against many times by the prophets of God. These kings of Israel broke the lineage of David from day 1. The blessing was not in them. Commander after commander took things into their own hands to defeat the rulers they served. Ending up with Ahab. It is during his time that Joshua's curse on Jericho was fulfilled. 1 Kings 16:34, In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation with Abiram his firstborn, and w...
