Have you missed doing something really important? Did you feel bad about it? Were you able to put things right? Did you lie in the process? Or, did you admit your failures and appeal to be able to make it right? This can happen with submission of taxes, bill payments, or a promise you made with or without much thought. The chapter today recaptures a serious moment when the Jews were reminded of the teachings from the Book of the Law. Nehemiah 8:10, Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” The people discovered they missed doing many things, and they were weeping and mourning. But Ezra says to rejoice instead.
