Shift comfort zone

As human beings we have a way to look at the world through our paradigms or frame of reference. It is difficult to break from them because it will take us out of our comfort zone. We may break from it for a short while, but we tend to return to it because it is painful to make the shift. Someone who follows Jesus Christ struggles with the same. 2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. The situation Peter is talking about indicates that people were mixing in their old beliefs with the purity of what God had done on the cross and the resurrection. It is interesting that this was happening in the first century. God's plan is not human

The Roman Empire was once a great institution. It was a republic where you get the idea of a senate, governors and other elements of government that is followed in one way or another by many countries. A highly respected form of government. But based on the record of their process with Paul in this chapter, it is highly corrupted and imperfect due to the influence that a small few could have on the government. But in the midst of all this the gospel moved in a manner that would not have been possible in any other time. Acts 16:8-10 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.
