In 2016 I was listening to a message from a preacher who spends much time on end times research and dialogue. One thing that caught my attention was that if we had prophets like the days of Jeremiah in today's times especially the presidential election year in the US, there would be chaos. There was great chaos then.
Jeremiah 26
2 Thus says the Lord: Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the Lord’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Do not diminish a word.
12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the people, saying: The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city with all the words that you have heard.
It is evident from the reading of this chapter that there were many other prophets and these did not prophesy along the lines of the way Jeremiah did. Jeremiah was bold to do it in the temple. Another prophet spoke against Judah and he was caught and killed by the king of Judah. Jeremiah could have been similarly killed. Are we ready to go against convention and do what is right in God's eyes? The way is hard and dangerous but we need to do it.
Father, give me the boldness, the wisdom and the strength to do what is right in your eyes. Not what is convenient, acceptable and safe. My life is in your hands for your glory.
PS. I rarely put a "PS" in my reflections but there is a special man mentioned in verse 24, "Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death." He is son of Shaphan who was the scribe in King Josiah's days when they discovered the Book of the Law. Ahikam was his son, and Gedaliah was the grandson that was chosen by the Babylonians to be governor over the cities of Judah. 3 generations of faithful men. One of the rare times the bible mentions a name with 3 generations. See Jeremiah 40:5. This is my prayer for our children and our children's children. That they be faithful to the call of God as a family.
