I must confess. I love chocolate. Once Shawn, my son, showed me his mug brownie that he had eaten for supper, I planned on a visit to a corner place to get some brownies. I consumed all of it and it was gone. There is a saying, "You cannot have your cake and eat it". Basically means I cannot take the brownie home if I had already eaten it in the shop. In other words, you cannot benefit in both ways. You have to choose.
Jeremiah 7:8-10
“Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered to do all these abominations’?
The people of Judah were literally being scolded for their ways. On the one hand they were loyal in going to God's house, but on the other hand they were worshiping other gods. Even to the extent of sacrificing their children to these gods. You cannot do both. You cannot "cover your bases" by doing both. It is impossible. Why do you need both when you are serving the Almighty God?
Father, as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
