Have you been given a second chance in life? Perhaps, you came to a point where you thought death is imminent but somehow you survived the accident or the severe illness. I had an experience of a smaller scale in this area. When I finished my O (stands for "Ordinary") level examinations in Malaysia (a major examination that determines your future academic path) I left for Canada to do my final year of high school l to get into university. While I was in my first semester, I got news from Malaysia that I had failed my O level examinations. I was very depressed and the very next day I was having my mid term examinations at the high school in Canada. I could not study. But the Lord gave me a second chance. My results from the mid term was straight As. Hence, I started my successful second chance for academics.
Jonah 3:1-3
Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent.
Jonah was given a second chance. The chapter goes on to show how Jonah successfully saturated the city of Nineveh with the word of the Lord all the way to the king who decreed for a national fast. Within 40 days the people repented and God held back His judgement. Whatever I have done, and whatever you have done, it is all in the past. Change your ways, repent and seek forgiveness. For Jonah to go to Nineveh was not a natural thing. It was a huge city that required 3 days of walking, but Jonah did it and the king himself was impacted by the word that Jonah brought. It does not come naturally, but do it.
Father, I thank you for your many 2nd chances. I love you, but you first loved me.
