When you open the papers to the entertainment and lifestyle pages you see so much glamour. Clothing, shoes, jewelry, perfumes, hand bags and more. I have nothing against them, but when they distract us from what is more important, it matters.
Isaiah 3:18-23
In that day the Lord will take away the finery:
The jingling anklets, the scarves, and the crescents;
The pendants, the bracelets, and the veils;
The headdresses, the leg ornaments, and the headbands;
The perfume boxes, the charms,
and the rings;
The nose jewels,
the festal apparel, and the mantles;
The outer garments, the purses,
and the mirrors;
The fine linen, the turbans, and the robes.
In this chapter it also says the children will be part of the distraction. We will be focused on making them happy rather than what the Lord requires of us and them. Isaiah prophesies trouble for the people of Israel.
The judgement of God being relayed to the people of Judah, especially the nobility is truly tough. Much is to be lost. History tells us that instead of repenting and seeking God, they continued in their ways. But Nineveh in Jonah's experience was very different. They were spared when they repented.
Are we ready to go back to basics in our daily material living to the point of incredible suffering, or back to basics in God. I prefer the latter.
Father, help me to continue living in your ways. Show me if there is any wicked way in me and let me repent and turn my heart towards You. This is my back to basics.
