If someone something significant for you, do you easily forget? You may remember the incident but your interactions with them may not reflect your gratitude. Such was the case with these tribes of Israel. God did some significant things for them.
1 Chronicles 5:20, And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them, for they cried out to God in the battle. He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in Him.
It goes on to say that God took over.
1 Chronicles 5:22, for many fell dead, because the war was God’s. And they dwelt in their place until the captivity.
However, they forgot all this so easily in the ensuing years and worshiped the gods that were in the land. They acted with great foolishness and God removed His protection and presence, leading them to be defeated by the Assyrian army. They had a great legacy of God's abiding presence but they forgot.
1 Chronicles 5:24, These were the heads of their fathers’ houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel. They were mighty men of valor, famous men, and heads of their fathers’ houses.
Father, may my name never be listed like this, a mighty man of valor who forgot God.
