Some say age is just in the mind. I say it is in your general well-being, starting of course with your mind. Much of our aging comes from stress. I see heads nodding. Anger, anxiety, disappointment, greed, and the list can keep going. In a way, if we want to age gracefully, the choice is ours. I hear many, "hmmm's". Switching topics before I draw great debate, the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty.
1 Chronicles 23:3, Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and above; and the number of individual males was thirty-eight thousand.
But later in the chapter it is mentioned that they were taken into service at the age of twenty and above.
1 Chronicles 23:27, For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above;
There seems to be a change of mind that requires deeper study. It is obvious a census was taken initially for those aged 30 and above. However, David's last words on the matter was to have those aged 20 and above. Perhaps this was a reflection of the age at which David came to serve God. Yes, God can use you or your children for important work from as young as 20. But like David, prepared for it even before the age of 20.
Father, help me recognize your call on a young man or woman, and help them nurture that for your glory.
