Ever done anything in secret and hoped that you would not be found out? I have! What an embarrassment that was. I won't repeat it here. I am too embarrassed to share. Suffice to say that it taught me a big lesson for the rest of my life. You guessed it. It was something in my early childhood days. The same was true for the King of Israel. It cost him and his people dearly.
2 Kings 17:4 And the king of Assyria uncovered a conspiracy by Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and brought no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
The king and his people were deported in totality to Assyria, and in their place was brought people from other nations to inhabit these empty cities. What a sad outcome. They were promised this land by God, but they rejected Him. The people that came to takeover this land decided that they needed to worship the Jewish God.
2 Kings 17:28, Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the Lord.
But they were not faithful. They worshiped their gods as well. What a mess. It was chaotic. We keep secrets so that we can please people all around. We forget that the living God is watching and listening. There are no secrets for Him.
Father, since you know everything, help me to always be transparent with you.
