Many of us are very territorial. Whether it is our place of residence, office location and size, place at the dinner table, or order of seating in a meeting. In the past, there was always a little competition for who would sit where among our children. God had promised land for the people of Israel, but they were losing it.
2 Kings 10:32-33, In those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel; and Hazael conquered them in all the territory of Israel from the Jordan eastward: all the land of Gilead—Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh—from Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, including Gilead and Bashan.
This chapter is full of bloodshed. King Jehu was very clear. He was to eradicate all Baal worship in Israel. He went about it with great force. However, he is said to be still an idoltrer.
2 Kings 10:29, However Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan.
God desires purity of heart and obedience. Jehu was anointed king of Israel and God blesses his descendents to four generations to rule over Israel. However, much depends on his descendents for the nation of Israel to live right before God. Otherwise, God's promised land will be completely taken away. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
Father, search my heart today and see if there be any wicked way in me.
