Reading the chapter today reminds me of how it was in my early corporate life without the internet. We could only send letters by post, courier or fax. There was always this contention as to whether a faxed letter is acceptable, especially if the receiving fax used thermal fax paper. Remember those days? David's days was even more backward.
2 Samuel 18:27, So the watchman said, “I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.”
And the king said, “He is a good man, and comes with good news.”
Messengers ran to bring news from the battlefield. They specialized and so people knew who they were. They ran long distances, had to remember well the messages and be ready to present the message according to protocol. They were committed and trusted to do the job well.
We also are messengers. Messengers of the gospel. We need to be intentional, know how to do it right, be committed and be trusted. Being trusted is the most difficult. We need to demonstrate the gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives.
Father, help me be a great messenger of the gospel.
