Politics can be a very consuming activity and the intrigue it carries builds great fodder for conversations, especially among men. I apologize if I am being chauvinistic but statistics show that men are more interested in politics than women. It builds interest in current affairs like no other. In my country we conduct a lot of "coffee shop" talk around politics. I am sure when there is less politics to discuss the revenues of these establishments goes down (sorry no statistics to support this assertion). The media capitalizes on this and makes good money. However, this is all taking us away from what is important.
Ezekiel 28:2
“Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god
Ezekiel 28:22
and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against you, O Sidon; I will be glorified in your midst; And they shall know that I am the LORD, When I execute judgments in her and am hallowed in her.
Tyre and Sidon all receiving judgement because of their ungodly ways. They are blinded by the riches they are making using unjust and sinful ways. There is every indication that the Lord has revealed Himself to them in their history but they have chosen to ignore. The same is true of many nations in the world. God has revealed Himself in their history but they have chosen to ignore His ways.
The gospel was also brought to the Arabs but they chose to ignore God's ways. There is no other way a man can be saved except through the redemptive work of our God and Lord. Our good works and prayers are never good enough and are considered filthy. We need God's personal intervention. This is the only way we can receive assurance for our salvation.
Politics cannot save you, only God can. It is time to use "coffee shop time" and media for what is important. Father, I can only say thank you.
