In our colloquial way we will always say to our children, "share share" (a Malaysian phrase) to encourage to be generous in sharing what they had. However, it goes without saying that, learning to share comes best when adults demonstrate it themselves among each other. One of the greatest time of sharing was when the land was divided among the people of Israel.
Joshua 19:51, These were the inheritances which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel divided as an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the Lord, at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. So they made an end of dividing the country.
They drew lots and everyone got their portion in that order. Everyone respected their turn and submitted it to be God's choice area for them. No one is recorded as having complained. In fact some extended their borders.
Joshua 19:47, And the border of the children of Dan went beyond these, because the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem and took it; and they struck it with the edge of the sword, took possession of it, and dwelt in it. They called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.
God blessed them with that victory. Everyone got their fair share. Are we ready to accept all that God has given and done for us? Are we ready to share the blessings? We cannot be tight fisted when what we have is from God. We can only be generous.
Father, help me to be generous with all that I have as you would direct me. Help me to manage all that you have given in your way.
