Are you free? Are you free to do what you wish? Usually this comes with a life that is free from any responsibility and pressure. We would all love to be in this place. Is it ever possible? In a way yes! We can because we are children of the promise as mentioned by Paul.
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
It is interesting that Paul brings in Hagar, the bondservant, into the story. Yes, her son is blessed but the full blessing of the promise is only through Isaac in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus only can save us and give us the true sonship in God. It is available to all, including the descendants of Ishmael.
For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, (which things are symbolic.)
We cannot stay thinking that it is our works that get us to heaven. I came from a faith that parallels some of the practices of the Jewish people but ignores God. Why do we keep ignoring God the creator of the universe and the lover of mankind, and worship the created and the manmade? This is not the original instruction of our forefathers, neither it is to be assumed that it is our culture. It is unnatural and not in our original DNA to ignore the God of the universe and His gift of eternal life.
Father, Paul never knew that this flawed thinking of the church in Galatia would one day also go to Arabia and yield the fastest growing religion in the world. Father, help me to share the promise so that all will enjoy the same sonship.
