I remember when I was in school having to do a subject called Civics where you were taught all the right things to do. It was a subject that you were never tested on and so no one paid serious attention to it. In the final year of my Malaysian high school the person that taught us Civics was the headmaster himself. When he came in we were extra quiet. This was not normal even though his office was directly above us. We were a loud class where a third of the class were school prefects and the class monitor was more a friend and my bench buddy (we sat next to each other). Something was missing.
Matthew 6:22-23
The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
These are the many virtues that Jesus teaches on the Mount. Generosity, humility, forgiveness, contentment, purity and faith. This chapter is heavy. Reading this chapter and other things mentioned throughout the Bible, it would have been great to use it as the textbook for Civics and bring everyone to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We would be a loving, generous, forgiving, humble and good civil society. This chapter also contains the Lord's Prayer.
Matthew 6:8-13
“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
All religions imply that they teach good, but without God it is impossible to have Godly behavior. We cannot find the good in ourselves. It needs to come from God that fills us with His holy presence. He can only come if we are a holy vessel. And this comes with the blood of Jesus washing us off our sin. A lesson in Civics alone will not help. We need to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness.
Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Father, thank you for your message of salvation for all mankind. Let me carry it to many.
