No fair! Or, not fair! We may have heard this phrase growing up. In fact, I have said it before. And it was truly the case recently. I was picking up an elderly couple from the airport. They were already curbside, but there was no place to stop. I had to drive quite a distance away. Airport security came to me and said keep moving. I said to him that my passengers are already curbside and I am going to get them. He kept insisting that I stay with my vehicle and I cannot wait there. This is when I showed him the many vehicles that were not moving and taking up space behind me. This prevented me from stopping closer to the couple. No fair! But God is fair!
Ezekiel 18:20
The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
No one should be blamed or punished for another person's wrongdoing. And, truly no one can save another person's soul through a blood relationship or covering of any form. Yes, you can pray but the person needs to decide to follow God's ways. It is the same for our children. They need to individually find God and submit their ways to Him. No one can substitute themselves for another. Why? Because we are all sinners saved by God's grace. There are many cultures that pray for the deceased, but based on this verse, it is pointless.
Only Jesus could do it. Only He could take the sins of mankind. But we need to accept His salvation. He died on the cross and rose again for all mankind. Yes, follow Him. Father, may all our children follow You.
