Whether you are vacuuming or mopping your floor you must have a clear plan. If you don't your vacuum cables will be in the way or you could be messing up an area that is already mopped. Or, worst still, you mop yourself into a corner. A parallel to this is a chess game. You do not want to be checkmated. This is what was going on in Jerusalem. The king was in a corner and allowed his need for self preservation to lead him into a corner.
Jeremiah 38:5-6
Then Zedekiah the king said, “Look, he is in your hand. For the king can do nothing against you.” So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king’s son, which was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.
The dungeon experience must have been harrowing for Jeremiah. He was left to die. But an Ethiopian came to the rescue. While the leaders of Judah operated with human rationale, this Ethiopian seems to have heeded God's Word and sought to lift Jeremiah out. Zedekiah also seems to know what is right but is more concerned with his position and what people around him would say. How sad? Did they not understand the consequences?
We are constantly in this state of challenge where we are concerned with the here and now rather than the best that God intends for us. God knows the beginning to the end. Trusting Him is the best we can do. He will constantly urge us on as we seek first His kingdom. I have been led through much adventure in my life with God. Just trusting Him as I make those small steps of faith.
Father, there is much I do not control, but I know I can rely on the Creator of the Universe as I do right with small steps of faith.
