I think I may have caused a stir recently when I entitled my post "Final Farewell". I am back. In a way this reminds me of Jesus saying He is back. Many thought He had died and still many believed that He died unjustly. Many things happened to reflect the early reactions. But there are some who did not believe He died. Paul refers to these.
This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth. To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.
It is not mentioned what these fables are, but they basically negate the need for Jesus dying on the cross. It is taking people back to the old days of needing to fulfill the law using human efforts. It is opposed to the idea that Jesus came to fulfill the law for us by dying on the cross, and we are saved by this act of love and sacrifice by God himself.
Paul gives clear instruction on the criteria for the appointment of good leaders. They would be able to maintain the truth of the gospel of salvation. This will ensure the good news is kept correct for generations to come.
What is the state of your walk with God and leadership? We should all aspire to fulfill the leadership criteria that Paul mentions. This is also a good check for me.
Father, thank you for reminding about the need to stay right so that your people can stay right following the truth.
