It has become harder to raise children in today's circumstances because they get access to the outside world at a very young age. In the past their world view was developed from what parents and siblings told them. But today, as young as two or three, they are receiving information through the internet using Daddy's or Mummy's smartphone or tablet. We therefore have to be ready to nurture them under such conditions.
Paul tells Timothy that he is to choose leaders where they are raising children that are obedient and have reverence to the Lord.
1 Timothy 3:4, one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence.
1 Timothy 3:12, Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
Nothing beats quantity time with your children. I personally struggle with this because of my busy schedule. I need to make time and take things out of my busy schedule to ensure I spend the time with my children.
Just as important would be time with my wife. Paul speaks of leaders being of one wife. We need to love them as ourselves. It is the same deal. Quantity time with my wife is important.
The chapter ends with some statements on godliness. Our focus of a great model for living is Jesus Christ himself. Yes, as leaders we are being looked up, a great example. However, we need to keep pointing to Jesus, our Great Redeemer.
1 Timothy 3:16, And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
Father, your Book of Life has said it all. This book has the greatest advice for godliness, parents and families. I am going to keep studying and obeying it to build a great family.
