Our days are numbered from the day we are conceived. Or, should I say, before that. God in His sovereignty knows exactly how long we will live. He knows us. Jeremiah 1:5 says he knew us before we were even conceived. Our lives can be said to have been preconceived by God. While He gives us free will, He has foreknowledge of our actions and circumstances and outcomes. He also listens to our pleadings. Abraham did that for Lot and Hezekiah did it for his life.
Isaiah 38:5 “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.
Isaiah 38:7-8 And this is the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing which He has spoken: Behold, I will bring the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward.” So the sun returned ten degrees on the dial by which it had gone down.
The day turned back for a moment (some calculate this to be 40 minutes) as a sign for Hezekiah. How that was done and the experience must have been incredible at that time just as much or more so just reading about it at this time. Hezekiah got his life extended for a time.
Father, thank you for being open and willing to hear my pleadings. I know there are times that things cannot go my way for my own good. But I know I can cry out to you for my health and other needs. Thank you God!
