Governments around the world are constantly looking at what policies to implement and new laws to enact. Most of these have a positive reason, and most times it is for the long term benefit of the country and its citizens. However, King Ahasuerus issued a law to kill all the Jews in his kingdom in 11 months.
Esther 3:6, But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him of the people of Mordecai. Instead, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus—the people of Mordecai.
All this came about because of one man's anger against another. When you are in power it is sad when you use it for wickedness. The Jews must be celebrating the Passover in some form (assuming they still do it in the 15th day of the first month, Nisan) when they received this news. And now they need to prepare to be no more in about 11 months. What would be your reaction if you were a Jew? Civil action? March the streets? Write to your local leader?
We only read the following in this chapter.
Esther 3:15, The couriers went out, hastened by the king’s command; and the decree was proclaimed in Shushan the citadel. So the king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Shushan was perplexed.
The capital city was "perplexed".
Father, when I am perplexed, I will come to you for your direction. What do you want me to do?
