I have had the privilege of traveling to New Zealand a number of times, and our adult children live there. It is a beautiful country. Everything you have heard about New Zealand is true. I have been hearing reports that Americans are buying large tracts of land and homes in New Zealand. Why they are doing this I am not sure. It is a place where you can hike, climb, fish, walk a glacier, see the fiords, and many other things all within short distances. It is also well-known for sheep. There are seven sheep to one person, or about 30 million sheep in New Zealand. Our neighbors raise sheep too. Israel also had many sheep and Jesus uses this to tell a fisherman what he needs to do.
Jesus asked Peter three times do you love you, and after Peter said yes, He said feed my lambs, tend my sheep and feed my sheep.
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep. Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.”
A new job for a fisherman. Jesus was leading Peter to a new role just before He left them. Peter went back to what he knew best. Fishing! But after not catching anything, the carpenter and God showed Peter where the fish was and they got a bountiful harvest. It is not that Jesus was going to bless their fishing business, but I believe Jesus was showing that He can provide as Peter stepped out to obey Him into a new season of his life to feed His sheep. Yes, it is a new sphere of work that Peter is about to launch out on.
Father, I love you and I will Follow.
