Am I too quick with my mouth? I have many times regretted being in a "quick draw" (cowboy term for shooting match) situation. I need to be mindful of what I say lest I say the wrong thing and yield negative consequences. But as I shared in my last post, I need to SPEAK in some circumstances without fear, even under threat of negative consequences. This is what the apostles did.
But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.” And when they heard that, they entered the temple early in the morning and taught. But the high priest and those with him came and called the council together, with all the elders of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Many miraculous things were happening during the early days of the movement. People who lied to the Holy Spirit collapsed and died. Many who were physically unwell were healed, even with just the apostles passing near them. Many were delivered from demon possession. Due to the momentum created and the fear that the people will listen to them, the Jewish leaders imprisoned the apostles. But the Lord brought them out without the need to open the doors of the prison. Yes, they literally walked through the walls of the prison. The apostles were later brought back to the leaders, warned and beaten. But all this did not stop them from sharing or SPEAKING the good news.
So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
Father, I will not stop speaking!
