Is 13 an unlucky number for you? I found this statement from the web: "Researchers estimate that at least 10 percent of the U.S. population has a fear of the number 13, and each year the even more specific fear of Friday the 13, known as paraskevidekatriaphobia, results in financial losses in excess of $800 million annually, as people avoid marrying, traveling or in the most severe cases, even working." Incredible! I suppose people cling to this like many other superstitions.
Well in the case of this Mark chapter 13, Jesus foretells a lot of bad things. The first thing He says is that the Jewish temple will be destroyed. It has happened. He also said the disciples will be persecuted. This also happened. Wars and rumors of wars will happen. It has happened, including earthquakes. Jesus also mentions that no one will know when the final end will come. But He does give the assurance that those who choose salvation given by God will be saved. They will have the Holy Spirit.
Mark 13:9-11
“But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
Yes, 13 may be bad but He promises that He will be there with us. The Holy Spirit will guide us through. Many Christians have been martyred till today around the world for their faith, but we have His presence with us giving us wisdom, strength and peace. You may be required to give a defence for your faith in front of an audience orchestrated by God. His promise is that He will also give you the words to say. The Holy Spirit will guide you.
Father, I know the only certain thing is that you are with me always. My life is in your hands.
