When you want to spread some great news who do you share it with first? Usually it is someone with a great number of friends and loves to share information. Do you think shepherds qualify under this category? Personally, I don't think so. They spend many days alone with sheep from day break to sundown. They do not ordinarily see anyone unless they are using common pastures with other shepherds. Jesus' birth was announced but not many got to know about it.
Luke 2:8-11
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
This is a tremendous announcement to be made and would have turned many heads. Especially, the Jewish leaders. But it was only made known to the shepherds, Simeon and Anna. And of course, Joseph and Mary. Jesus amazed many in His young days, especially when he was 12 at the temple courts. Do you want to be in on what God is doing? Spend time with Him in solitude. There may be challenges of adversities all around you. Or maybe you are facing some personal challenges of your own. Get alone with Jesus, and He will be your guide through these times. He in fact is the Chief Shepherd.
Father, yes, I want to increase my God time. Fasting and praying like Anna the prophetess in this chapter.
