Christmas is truly a great time of celebrating God's gift to all mankind more than 2,000 years ago. I used to think of it as an opportunity to receive presents when I visit a home with a "Christmas Tree". However, at the age of 14 I understood better the Christmas story. Not only did Jesus come to show us the Kingdom but also the way to the Kingdom of God. He is truly the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through Him. God came in the flesh, suffered, died, was buried and resurrected so that we may have eternal life.
In Mark Chapter 12, Jesus continues to speak of His imminent death at the hands of the Jewish leaders. Jesus continues to show His tremendous wisdom and understanding of all things. This made the Jewish leaders very upset but they could not challenge His wisdom on the many things they questioned Him. He obviously had supernatural wisdom and knowledge.
Mark 12:35-37
Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”’ Therefore David himself calls Him ‘Lord’; how is He then his Son?” And the common people heard Him gladly.
This is an interesting question. The Messiah in the Old Testament is said to be the Son of David. Just like many other prophecies, it points to God coming in flesh to save mankind from eternal death. He is to come through the lineage of David and Jesus did just that. Are you confused? Do not be. The Anointed One, the Messiah, and the Saviour of the world is to have a human birth as a descendant of King David. Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God. Only this can explain what He is capable of doing for all of mankind.
Perhaps for you Christmas is nothing more than a celebration by some Christian friends and/or acquaintances. What I shared here may not be easily seen or understood watching these celebrations. I would suggest that you study the whole book of Mark to get a better and complete perspective on the gospel message and receive God's ultimate gift. This is my prayer for all my relatives and friends.
Father, speak to my relatives and friends this day.
