I want to be a blessing

I have seen many over the years trying to get ahead by jockeying for position with those in influence. What a sad motive to get close to a senior person. For one, I would be very stressed if I was the one trying to do this. There must be more to life than just being where important people are going. Do it because you have a genuine interest in their welfare. If I were the person of influence, I would rather have genuine friends than friends who are only interested in getting something out of me. Those in authority would agree with this statement.

Proverbs 25:7
For it is better that he say to you,
“Come up here,”
Than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince,
Whom your eyes have seen.

Proverbs 25 focuses on relationships between us and those in authority and our neighbors. We need to deal wisely with those in authority. Do not be given to hurriedly pursuing an audience with them in matters of disputes with neighbors (verses 6-10). We also need to be wise in how we handle the resources given to us. Share them, even with our enemies. There is only so much you can consume. It is better to share and gain from the sharing, especially with enemies (verses 21-22).

I am blessed with more than I need. Yes, even though there is a sense that I "need more", I "need less". The extra is to be given away so that I win friends from neighbors and enemies. There is great benefit with those in authority that I do this. Truly the "dross that hangs on the silver will be removed". Much benefit will come not just to me but those around me, especially those who are responsible for me.

Father, help me to be more a blessing than a person that pursues blessing.

Heavenly courage and capability

Anybody reading this belongs to the military or was in the military? I commend you if you were. Whatever reason you were part of the military, it takes great courage to perform your role. "Being Ready" cannot wait

Ready for the end of the world? Ready for death? I am sure many reading this are indifferent to this question. You don't care. But if you care about what you eat each day. You care about who you meet. You care about your health. And perhaps, you even care about people, your community and/or the environment. There is a silver lining

The phrase "silver lining" is used when you want to emphasize the hopeful side of a situation that might seem gloomy on the surface. The origin of the phrase seems to be John Milton's 1634 poem "Comus," which includes the line, "Was I deceived? or did a sable cloud/Turn forth her silver lining on the night?" ( Source ). Time to return to an old and faithful relationship

Unfaithfulness or lack of loyalty is prevalent in our society today. But was it any different "back then"? This issue is a perennial one. From ancient times you see switching of loyalties and allegiances to suit the personal agenda of the person. Sometimes this could involve an entire nation. The kings, peoples and nation of Israel were no different. But there is hope. Hosea 3:5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. Be unconventional; it is okay!

In every society and organization there are cultural norms. There are practices that are observed and are deemed normal. Anything else would be unacceptable and may cause the person committing this to be taken out. In a religious context many of these may have no relevance to the practice of the faith. They are just ways to deal with all other aspects of life together. In this regard, Jesus was fairly unconventional.
