Have you ever spoken against somebody behind their back? I have. After you have done it you realize that it was wrong. Your God given conscience makes you feel sour, and you want to make it right. The Psalmist gets the same message in this chapter.
Psalms 50:20
You sit and speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother’s son.
What is this called? Gossip is a good label. Backbiting another. It is very detrimental to any family or organization. Repair is very difficult and may take years to make right. God is obviously displeased with it. We need to move away from human tendencies and take a God directed plan to reconcile the issues that are creating this. God urges us to get it right.
Psalms 50:23
Whoever offers praise glorifies Me;
And to him who orders his conduct aright
I will show the salvation of God.
Father, help me to order my conduct in your ways, avoiding harsh talk and gossip. Let me build rather than break down.
