For some of you the new year is already here. For others, it is happening within the next 16 hours. Another year has passed and a new year is before us. What have we gained from the past year besides weight? What should we continue to do? What should we do more of? What should we start doing? What should we stop doing? Important questions that I learned from a friend. Moses was made to record Israel's journey as a form of review in this chapter.
Numbers 33:2, Now Moses wrote down the starting points of their journeys at the command of the Lord. And these are their journeys according to their starting points:
You can read the chapter and see how meticulous Moses was in recording their journeys. It is certainly a great way to remember all that God had done with them. There is no doubt in my mind that God had a clear plan and the people of Israel needed to reflect on this for the benefit of the next phase of their history. They were to enter the land promised to Abraham and his descendents. In the process there was going to be some dislocation of people that moved from God to worshiping idols and other gods.
Numbers 33:55, But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell.
What does your past look like? You cannot erase it. It is imprinted in the deep recesses of your brain. But the future is bright if God is with you. Follow His ways and be blessed for the new year. He is ready to fulfill the promises over your life.
Father, I enter the new year with great expectancy of your promises being fulfilled.
