I once heard a preacher relay this experience at a border crossing. He was asked to validate his credentials as a preacher by quoting the ten commandments. Now, how many of us can do that from memory? For the children of Israel this was important.
Exodus 20:2, I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
God spoke from a mountain with thunder and lightning. It was a fascinating experience but scary. So scary that the people asked that only Moses meet with God and they can hear from Moses. But this misses the point. Moses explains.
Exodus 20:20, And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”
Do you recognize God's holy presence next to you every moment? If you do, then you will be very conscious of not only avoiding wrong things, but also doing all the right things.
Are you doing right? Recognize His holy presence. Father, I want to do what is right at all times.
