Yesterday I wrote about how the bible is a great source of learning for science. Today, let me say that it is also a great source of information about the history of the world. The Pentateuch is great source material to speak about the origins of the world and the early history of mankind. I believe the only reason it is not used in the schoolroom is that God is mentioned. The concept of the day of rest came from history.
Genesis 2:3, Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
Geography is also covered. Places and what resources they have are mentioned very clearly.
Genesis 2:10-14, Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
All this is obviously being described before the great flood. The topography of the land and shape was very different. It was a big land mass at that time. The major catastrophe of the great flood changed much of that. Not in hundreds of millions of years as described by some researchers, but in months.
Do you believe in God? Even if you don't, you would be dumbfounded to convincingly explain the earth and its history. No other book in the world has this much documentation for us to process. It is an ancient book that has archived the history of the world and God's involvement.
Father, help me share your Word everywhere quickly because it is life giving.
