If someone was to tell you what is going to happen in the next over 500 years would you believe the person? A little difficult. It is easy to say something that would be beyond your lifetime. No one would be able to raise an issue if it did not come to pass. But it would be different with God (who is there from eternity to eternity) and when everything is recorded. This is what happened with Abram.
Genesis 15:5, Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
Abram had just defeated 4 kings with 318 men with God's help and he remarks that God has not blessed him with an heir. Here God promises him an heir and much more. While he promises something good, he also shares some challenges that are forthcoming.
Genesis 15:13, Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.
Egypt is not mentioned and the timing of when this would happen is not mentioned, but Abram was assured that he will not experience it himself. Easy to say but was it fulfilled? We know now that it was. Jacob, his twelve sons and the entire family moved to Egypt where Joseph was made Prime Minister.
Abram was blessed but at the same time struggles were promised. Are you ready for everything? One thing you can be assured of is that God will be with you through all these circumstances.
Father, thank you for your promises and how you fulfill them. I will continue to abide in you through all circumstances because something beautiful is coming.
