In my thirty years of corporate life, I have been in some tough board meetings. These were mostly in my days as a management consultant. The toughest meeting was one that was filled with politicians. In reflection of that, it is clear that politicians will always be in conflict when they have to manage a corporation that has either a strong profit motivation or manages funds outside the purview of the elected legislative arm of the government. Everyone has an agenda and their humanness shows up. Paul addressed the same thing with the church in Ephesus.
The same humanness in the corporate sphere exists in the body of Christ. The difference is that we have Jesus Christ to help us. If you needed a lesson on leadership, there is no better place to get it than the bible. One of them is right here in this chapter. Everyone has their place in the organization and need to be recognized for that. Each one with their unique gifts, talents and skills.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.
Paul talks about unity in the body and how that would bring glory to the Lord. My prayer for all of you is that you will make Jesus the center of your organization and see how that would transform the work that you do. Each one important for the organization because God has made you unique. The organization should have a God given corporate vision and mission, but you have a unique call from God that supports the work the organization does.
Father, help us to turn our eyes to you. Away from our personal agendas. Away from other people's agenda. Only your agenda. God's agenda!
