We have the benefit today of many ways of studying and documenting literature from years ago, even if they were just parchments or scrolls. These are ancient writings that cannot be ignored because they are the earliest form of documentation of human experience and history. But there is one document that stands out above all of these, and that is the Old Testament and, following that, the New Testament. These have been studied meticulously and critiqued with great effort. Nothing can take away the fact that Jesus, John the Baptist, and the disciples of Jesus were heroes from the days of the Romans occupying Israel. This is the context of the introduction of the book of John the Apostle. Here is the last verse of the first chapter of the book of John.
And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”
A dream? Certainly not. It gets better when you realize how it connects with what was said earlier. It provides a view of ancient times before the existence of man. A hard to comprehend period given that it precedes mankind. The first verse of this first chapter of the book of John says this.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Hard to comprehend? Don't worry. If you can somehow FULLY understand this statement, you must be God. It is impossible for a computer to fully understand the mind of the programmer or developer. Likewise, it is impossible for man to fully understand how Jesus can be fully man and God, and be there at the beginning. But one thing is for sure. He loved us from before time.
Father, I thank you for loving me before time began.
