Are you a leader? You have important responsibilities. I am sure by now you have read many leadership books and found many gems of thoughts, concepts, strategies and techniques for becoming not just a good leader but a great one. But to be the greatest of all is very difficult unless we follow Jesus' example. In this chapter Jesus berates (to put it lightly) the Jewish leaders.
Matthew 23:27-28
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Jesus has high standards for leaders. Can we match up? What is our agenda? Heavenly? Or, our own? Or, something called organizational agenda? Our daily distraction in fulfilling our leadership responsibility is sometimes the wrong agenda. The Jewish leaders are told they look good on the outside, but rotten on the inside. If our inside is right with God we will never be preoccupied with the wrong agenda. It is like eating food that is bad. If our body functions are all good, it will either deal with it at the tongue, if not in the stomach, if not in our intestines. The later the bad is detected the more awful the feeling, but it gets dealt with. Are we in good order inside?
Father, make me right inside so that the wrong agendas get puked out immediately.
