Much of the areas around Galilee today are in a state of alertness because of the neighboring states that would love to take potshots at Israel. Before the Golan Heights were taken, artillery fire would come from positions in this area against the areas around Galilee. It is truly a hotbed of violence and terror, but by God's grace it is relatively protected and calm at the moment. Nazareth, the home country or city of Jesus is right here. Much of His ministry about 2,000 years ago was around this area.
Mark 6:14-16
Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.” Others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.” But when Herod heard, he said, “This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!”
Jesus is well known here. Even King Herod knew John the Baptist and thought Jesus was his resurrection. There is no escaping the fact that they had an impact on the people of their time. Not only them but their disciples.
Mark 6:12-13
So they went out and preached that people should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.
They preached the kingdom of God, brought them to repentance and demonstrated the power of kingdom. Jesus did further miracles. He fed the 5,000 and walked on water. Even his disciples were amazed at His ability to do all these things. Yes, He was born of a woman. You know His birthplace and how He grew up as a son of a carpenter. But, he was much more, because of the way He was born and His life. Jesus was not just a man, but God with us.
Father, let me be obedient and do the same. Jesus, you are my Lord and Savior.
