It is incredible that seeds store most elements of life. They come in different forms. Plant seeds that get dispersed in different ways, including animal excrement when the fruit is ingested for food. There are also those that merely dispersed by wind. Some seeds yield major and large trees over time, and others yield plants that are essential for human food. Jesus uses the concept of seeds to explain the kingdom of God in this chapter.
Mark 4:8
But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.
This verse is preceded but statements about unfruitful seeds that do not grow and yield the fruit that they ought to. So much potential in the seed, but it yields nothing because the right conditions are missing. Six different kinds of soil, three of which yield great fruit. We need to have faith that God is going to use the little seeds in our lives to grow big things. Let's yield ourselves to His leading for the right conditions. It is very clear we need to do our part and God does the rest. It is illustrated by what Jesus says here.
Mark 4:26-29
And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
What is this passage saying to us? We do not understand how the seed germinates, grows and bears fruit. That is truly in God's hand. Our role is to simply be the seed sower and laborer that ushers in the souls saved into the kingdom of God. Go and demonstrate and present the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Father, I want to understand and yield myself to the right conditions for a great harvest of the kingdom.
