In my years as a financially independent adult I have experienced significant financial crisis around me in the mid to late nineteen eighties, the late nineteen nineties, around twenty fifteen, and twenty twenties. I may not have been personally challenged but the communities and organizations had been. How do you respond? Are these inevitable economic cycles that you need to plan for and weather through them? Much of it appears to be driven by man's greed and need for quick success. This is probably drove the calamities of ancient times.
Daniel 11:40-41
At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon.
This is so rich with prophecy fulfilled and prophecy of things to come. But there is mention of the glorious land being overrun and defeated. Northern and Southern kingdoms will keep rising up. What stands out is again the one great kingdom that broke into 4. During Daniel's senior leadership in the kingdom of the Medes he received this vision for a purpose. Perhaps to warn the people of Israel of the coming conflicts and draw them to the Lord.
When you hear these things what do you do? Cry out to God for help. He will be in the midst of us to help us go through the period of calamity. The calamity may not go away, but His holy presence will give the peace that passes all understanding.
Father, calamities can come and go, but my heart will be stayed on Jesus.
