Have you ever led a group of people that seemed to have differing opinions and perhaps are even prepared to sabotage your plans? Thankfully I have never had this problem. The challenges I have had in the past have always been from external factors. Government, financiers and competitors. Moses had problems from within and God reminded the people that He is only doing this to take out wicked nations.
Deuteronomy 9:4, Do not think in your heart, after the Lord your God has cast them out before you, saying, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land’; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out from before you.
In fact the people of Israel were about to be wiped out because they decided to worship a molded calf. This was probably a practice that continued from their days in Egypt. But God was committed to fulfilling His promise to their forefathers.
Deuteronomy 9:5, It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God drives them out from before you, and that He may fulfill the word which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Jesus did not need to come. God could have had a different plan. Just like the Great Flood, He could have instituted another catastrophe to start over. But his signature in the sky, the rainbow, says He will not repeat that. God's plan of salvation was instituted in spite of our great sinfulness and rejection of Him. God loved us while we were sinners. Don't take this for granted.
Father, thank you for your love.
