We all want our children to turn out well. Personally, Lee Yen and I have made many mistakes in our lifetime and we want our children to learn from that and the gospel message that transformed our lives. God instructed the people of Israel to take care to teach their children as well.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9, And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Everywhere! The children must not lose sight of what God has done and what He is going to do. Sometimes when you go through a period of blessing, the next generation could take for granted everything that they are experiencing. The children of Israel were going to experience blessing.
Deuteronomy 6:10-11, So it shall be, when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant—when you have eaten and are full.
Our children could suffer from that. As parents we need to point them to the Lord. They may be blessed today but greater blessing awaits them as they choose correctly the paths they take in the future. As parents we do what we can through the power of the Holy Spirit, the rest is their choice. Sharmaine, Sherman, Shawn and Shane we pray that you will choose God's ways for the rest of your lives.
Father, give Lee Yen and me wisdom to raise our children in your ways.
