The Hindu rites for various events is quite elaborate. Includes events around the birth of a child, then puberty, marriage and death. Everything requires consultation with the Hindu priest who is very knowledgeable about the acceptable steps. Moses and Aaron were given steps as well, and there was some contention on whether these were followed correctly.
Leviticus 10:19, And Aaron said to Moses, “Look, this day they have offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the Lord, and such things have befallen me! If I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been accepted in the sight of the Lord?”
Both the Hindu and Jewish steps for different things seem to indicate that people took seriously their approach to God. But God used Jesus to show us that the heart was more important. Are you right with God? There was a second lightning that killed two people.
Leviticus 10:2, So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.
We can go about life wondering if what we have done is acceptable. Or, we pursue God sincerely each day and recognize that it has all been done and taken care of on the cross. I am reminded of the paradigm shift Peter had, and later the Apostles and leaders had about how Gentiles were coming to Jesus. God's intervention in Cornelius and his family showed that the old traditions and steps were no longer needed. Everything has changed with Jesus.
Father, you are all I need.
