Have you ever been desperate? Perhaps, you lost something. Or, you are so sick that you cannot move? Or, people are pursuing you and you don't know where to turn. I have met people who have taken large loans with loan sharks. They do this to help get themselves out of trouble with the banks but end up paying so much more, and risk being physically harmed if they do not pay up. Jacob was desperate too.
Genesis 32:11, Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and attack me and the mother with the children.
He ran from Laban and settled that, but now he has to face Esau as he crosses to return to Canaan. He understands and reiterates God's promise to him but still devises his own scheme to protect himself. He sends everyone forward before him and ends up meeting with an angelic being that he refers to as God.
Genesis 32:30, So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
He wrestled all night and finally was blessed. Most of us need that second assurance from God that He is going to take care of it. I have personal first hand experience of this. But God spoke clearly again, He will take care of it. Are you desperate? Hold on to Him and He is ready to hear you.
Father, help me to hold on to you tight and understand that you are ready to fulfill your promise to take care of my every concern and anxieties.
