Oil and water do not mix

In my previous post I spoke about food made with "tongue twisting double taste". Today, let me talk about how two things cannot mix. Oil and water. We have all done that experiment and realized that oil is impenetrable by water. However, dispersants used to clean oil spills are able to break up oil. In the same manner the ways of God and our human tendencies tend to be in conflict. James in the early part of the chapter today talks about it and comes very strong with this statement.

James 4:7-8

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

I am sure you have seen how a stray drop of oil recombines with a larger pool of oil. The oil stays together, and likewise, we need to reconnect with the Lord. There will be "dispersants" that try to break us from God, but as we pursue His presence we find peace, love and joy. Nothing can upset us.

James 4:13-14
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

When we have God in our lives, we know that we can plan, and sometimes those plans can be changed by God for our own good. The change can only be accepted well when we are with God. Why? Because it is under this condition we know He always has a better plan. We cannot be a stray drop of oil.

Father, let me walk constantly with you.

Heavenly courage and capability

Anybody reading this belongs to the military or was in the military? I commend you if you were. Whatever reason you were part of the military, it takes great courage to perform your role. Time to return to an old and faithful relationship

Unfaithfulness or lack of loyalty is prevalent in our society today. But was it any different "back then"? This issue is a perennial one. From ancient times you see switching of loyalties and allegiances to suit the personal agenda of the person. Sometimes this could involve an entire nation. "Being Ready" cannot wait

Ready for the end of the world? Ready for death? I am sure many reading this are indifferent to this question. You don't care. But if you care about what you eat each day. You care about who you meet. You care about your health. And perhaps, you even care about people, your community and/or the environment. Keep to the Original

When you buy things, a branded piece of garment mostly gives you an assurance that it meets a certain set standard of quality. It allows you to decide whether paying a certain price is worth the money. A cheap brand attracts a low value, while an expensive one probably has the design and other qualities that are worth paying for. I have my favorite brands not because I am brand conscious, but because I want to be assured of the value experience. I sometimes try new brands, but as a test. However, I am wary of "copycats". Be unconventional; it is okay!

In every society and organization there are cultural norms. There are practices that are observed and are deemed normal. Anything else would be unacceptable and may cause the person committing this to be taken out. In a religious context many of these may have no relevance to the practice of the faith. They are just ways to deal with all other aspects of life together. In this regard, Jesus was fairly unconventional.
