Every parent is eager to see their child progress from being a new born baby to an adult. From being totally dependent on them for every single thing to being totally independent. In many cultures they have a serious process for a child to enter adulthood, and it usually happens at puberty. The writer of Hebrews is concerned with the followers of Jesus Christ entering "adulthood" in their faith.
And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
This verse had to be shared to show that Jesus, who is God, was perfected in His humanness to become the provider of eternal salvation. He became the perfect sacrifice for us. Likewise, we must know our responsibility as "spiritual adults". Not feeding on milk but on meat. However, sometimes we have to go back to the core understanding and this means we may have to go back to milk.
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
Once a child progresses successfully to adulthood, we see relief in the parents. Likewise, our Father in heaven. We are ready to engage in the spiritual work prepared for us. The fight is not physical. It is spiritual. Unless you mature, understand what spiritual work is about, and put on the full armor of God, you will fail.
Father, help me understand the nature of spiritual work and engage in it well with your power.
