To marry or not to marry is the question. I have many married friends, and I am married too. Most of us are happily married and have children. We are thankful that life has been good for us. But marriage can make you change your interests and priorities. An agreement had to be made on how you spend your life post marriage. It gets even more challenging and life changing when you have children. Paul is single and advocates staying single if you can. And I know many great single friends.
For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.
There is constant social pressure to be married by a certain age and have children. But Paul is clearly saying that being single helps us to focus on the things of the Lord. We will stay correct while being unmarried or married in our daily walk, if we would seek the Lord's ways in all things as a single or a married couple respectively. Whatever said and done, we are created to be fruitful and multiply.
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
What consumes you after marriage? I am reminded of Matthew 6:33. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. In your marriage or in your single life, seek Him and truly all other things will be taken care of. We cannot be distracted from the best that God has for us, whatever we choose. He has given us a responsibility over the spheres that He has placed us in. The scripture says that we are to subdue it and have dominion over it. Whether we are married or otherwise, the Lord has given us a responsibility,
Father, let us as a family seek your kingdom and your righteousness always.
