History has a way of making us reflect and say that we need to do better. But the problem is that we do not learn from it. We repeat the mistakes of the past. We are therefore very predictable in what we would do. Man is driven by human greed and selfishness. But in spite of all this, God is still ready to save the situation.
Isaiah 63:16
Doubtless You are our Father,
Though Abraham was ignorant of us,
And Israel does not acknowledge us.
You, O Lord, are our Father;
Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name.
This chapter seems to be a reflection of days gone by a remnant of the people of Israel who are standing in the gap for the rest. It is preceded by God saying I am standing with you and I will destroy your enemies. I am reminded yet again how the fervency for the Lord can vary from one generation to the next. Ultimately it is up to us not to forget the goodness of the Lord, to learn from history and return to Him.
In May of 2016 I met a retired senior civil servant for dinner, I was reminded that there is a critical need to invest in the next generation of leaders to ensure their ability to fulfill their unique call (general call us to fulfill the great commission) is not compromised while in the pursuit of matters of the world. I need to make disciples who make disciples who make disciples that are faithful to both the general and their unique call.
Father, help me to speak into the generations for the sake of ending gospel poverty.
